ADDITIONAL METHODOLOGIES
Aside from working with the conscious and subconscious mind there are a variety of other techniques and methods that I apply to my counselling approach which I have found to greatly improve results.
Homework
At the end of each session I set homework for the client to complete. It’s not compulsory but I usually recommend that you complete it since it will be something that’s topical and relevant.
During my time as a psychologist I have now written around 50 different tools, with each one of them the focusing on a different aspect of mental health or self-improvement. The value of this is I can deliver a very bespoked approach to all my clients and provide them specific tools to help with their specific issues
Breathwork
An additional strategy I weave into the practice is the use of breathwork. The value of breathwork is it can be performed by anyone and is not limited by a client’s mindset, age or experience etc. Any client who practices breathwork will see positive results.
In particular I can teach the client:
• Wim Hof breathing
• Holotropic breathing
• Box breathing
• Non-rest deep rest protocol
Fitness
The relationship between physical health and mental wellbeing is well established with the condition of your body having a direct influence on your mood, energy, and resilience. Research clearly shows regular physical activity supports mental health through better sleep, reduced fatigue, improved circulation, stress relief, and the increased production of serotonin and melatonin that naturally lifts your mood over time.
For clients who wish to work on this, we can put together a personalised sustainable workout schedule that gradually shifts your body into a state that actively supports your health and happiness
Diet
Diet works in much the same way. The quality of what you eat has a measurable effect on your mood and behaviour. Undiagnosed food sensitivities, which are more common than most people realise, can play a surprisingly large role in how a person feels day to day. For clients who want to address this we can discuss their current diet and improvements they would like to make and why. A good diet should be enjoyable and sustainable and not a source of additional stress, so any plan we put together will be tailored to you and built around food you actually enjoy eating. Both the exercise and diet components are entirely optional and can be set aside entirely in favour of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Brain Working Recursion Therapy (BWRT) work if that is your preference.
