ABOUT & QUALIFICATIONS
I think the best way to introduce myself and what I do is by explaining how I became a therapist.
I started on my journey with psychology due to a personal crisis in life. I had reached a point where I neither liked my job nor myself as a person. The job involved long hours and a high stress environment. I felt chronically tired and anxious, lurching around in a state of constant dissatisfaction. I tried my best to be productive but between chronic fatigue and fighting a case of undiagnosed IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) I had no energy after the working day to even begin to address my situation.
In addition, I had put on 20kg in weight with no signs of stopping. Not only this, but looking into the future I was really starting to believe that my life was to be perpetually tired, trapped in this quagmire. I tried to rectify this dissatisfaction by trying especially hard to enjoy the weekends, spending the little spare money I had irresponsibly. This of course only led to the inevitable disappointment one encounters when trying too hard to enjoy oneself. Ultimately I was failing at life and I wasn’t sure why.
Eventually after some time I was simply too tired and depressed to work and I was fired. Taking this as an opportunity to completely reinvent myself, I went back to university to study psychology with the intention of fixing my own issues and neurosis. Not only did delving deep into the psychological world significantly help my own mental wellbeing, but it ignited the flame to adopt it as my dream career. As a result I managed to not only reinvent myself, but also truly understand why a person would need to reinvent themselves in the first place.
It is this personal experience that shapes the way I work with clients. I know what it feels like to be stuck, exhausted and unable to see a way forward. That understanding sits at the core of everything I do.
